ARTIST BIO

Born in South Africa with a keen talent for art, Zahn du Plessis' roots run deep in her rich heritage, which is quite evident in her art. She began drawing and painting on everything while still in diapers, from newspapers, walls, to her family's car.

Despite leading a nomadic life and dwelling in five different continents, she found anchor in the United States.

In South Africa she dabbled with art as her hobby but 9 years ago she became a professional artist in Germany. She moved to the U.S.A. two years ago and graduated recently at the Milan Art Institute.
With every stroke of her brush, she endeavors to capture the essence of human experience, weaving tales that resonate deeply with the souls of those who behold her work. She tells her stories with bold color in an expressive style, drawing inspiration from everywhere she has been.

She loves to push the boundaries with her art. There exists no greater thrill to Zahn than igniting the flames of inspiration within others, stirring emotions and connecting with her tribe!

My Process...

I find immense joy in exploring mixed media, blending various materials and textures to create layers of visual delight. My preferred medium is oil paint, which I use to lavish my creations with rich
glazes and final touches, adding depth and dimension to my work.

Yet, I am not bound by convention. Every so often, I delight in pushing the boundaries of my creativity by embracing new media and techniques. Whether experimenting with vibrant colors, exploring diverse textures, or incorporating unconventional elements.

I relish in the opportunity to infuse my art with fresh energy and innovation. With each experiment, I strive to discover what will lend my work that extra edge, constantly pushing the envelope and evolving as an artist.

My style

Expressive realism is a style of art that combines the representational accuracy of realism with an emphasis on conveying emotion and personal interpretation. I aim to capture the essence or feeling of my subjects rather than depicting them with photographic precision. This may involve the use of expressive brushwork, dynamic compositions, and heightened contrasts to evoke a sense of drama or
intensity. I love using bold colors and ever so often juxtapositions, even sometimes bending the rules a bit.
